BATTER BUNS 
1 pkg. dry yeast
2/3 c. warm water
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 2/3 c. flour

Dissolve yeast in warm water in mixer bowl. Add sugar, shortening, salt, egg and 1 cup of the flour. Beat at low speed until well blended. Add remaining 2/3 cup flour. Beat with wooden spoon until smooth. Fills 12 greased muffin cups 1/2 full. Let rise for 30 to 40 minutes or until batter reaches top of muffin pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 1 dozen.
