MOTHER'S ROLLED SUGAR COOKIES | |
1 c. white sugar 1 c. brown sugar 1 c. shortening (mother used lard) 1 c. sour milk 3 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. nutmeg Flour to stiffen (I use approx. 4 c. Gold Medal all purpose flour) Cream shortening and sugars; add eggs, one at a time and mix well. Dissolve soda in sour milk, sift other dry ingredients together. Add milk and dry ingredients until well mixed. Bake at 375 degrees until cookies are done. Do not overbake or cookies will be dry. These are delicious spread with a white powdered sugar frosting. Sprinkle coconut or chopped nuts on for added flavor. |
