RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. lard
2 eggs, beaten light
1/2 c. thick sour milk
1/2 c. boiling water
2 sq. Baker's chocolate or 4 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda in sour milk

WHITE ICING:

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Mix cocoa with hot water and stir until thick. Add to batter with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir well. Bake in two medium size layer tins.

ICING: Boil until it spins a thread then pour over stiffly beaten egg whites. Beat until it stands in peaks.
