2 c. flour, sifted
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. evaporated milk
1/3 c. water
1 tbsp. vinegar
3 eggs

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves into bowl. Add brown sugar, shortening and vanilla. Add mixture of milk, vinegar and water. Beat on high first to mix, then medium speed for 2 minutes.

Add 3 eggs and beat on high two minutes more. Bake in greased and floured 9x12 cake pan at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Bake in center of oven.
