BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk

Sift together in bowl flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar - cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal - add buttermilk and mix only until dough is pliable (do not over beat). Turn dough on lightly floured surface and knead lightly - roll or pat 1/2 inch thick - cut with floured cutters. Place close together on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until golden brown. Make 9 to 12 biscuits. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
