DUMPLINGS FOR STEW OR SOUP 
1 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. milk

Mix and sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add milk, stirring quickly to make a soft dough. Drop by small spoonful into boiling salted water, cook covered for 8 to 12 minutes. (Use a fry pan with less than 1/2 inch of water.) Serve dumplings at once.
