VERMONT APPLE BARS 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. sliced apples

TOPPING:

1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. nuts, finely chopped
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream butter and sugar. Mix well. Stir together dry ingredients. Stir into butter. Add apples. Blend well. Spread in greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Mix together topping and sprinkle on top. Makes 24 bars.
