DATE PINWHEELS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. water

Cream sugars and shortening. Add unbeaten egg and beat. Sift dry ingredients together, add. Add water and mix smooth.

Make two flat rectangles about 1/4" thick. Spread with following filling and roll up like jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper and chill until firm. Slice and bake for 10 minutes on greased baking sheet in 375 degree oven.

FILLING:

1 (16 oz.) pkg. dates
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Cut up dates. Add sugar and water. Cook until thick. Cool. Spread on above dough.
