SPICY MOLASSES PIE 
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 tbsp. baking soda
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg yolk, beaten
1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell

Combine flour, sugar, spices and salt then blend in shortening until crumbly. Dissolve soda in 3/4 cup boiling water then combine with molasses and egg yolk. Alternate layers of crumb mixture and egg mixture in pie shell, ending with crumb mixture on top. Bake at 450 degrees until crust edges start to brown then reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake 20 minutes longer.
