1-2-3-4 CAKE WITH LEMON CHEESE
FILLING
 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
4 eggs
2 heaping tsp. baking powder
1 c. cold water

Cream butter and sugar together; add beaten yolks. Add flour and water alternately. After beating together, fold in the stiffly beaten whites. Bake in 2 greased and floured layer pans at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

LEMON CHEESE FILLING:

2 lg. lemons
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. butter
4 egg yolks

Mix flour and sugar together dry. Add lemon juice from both lemons and grated rind of one, butter and eggs to dry mixture. Cook in double boiler, stirring constantly, until thick. Cool and spread on cake.
