MRS. GEORGE'S ENGLISH TEA CAKE 
3 c. flour
2 tbsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. milk, scalded
2 tbsp. shortening
2 eggs
1 box raisins, washed and dried
2 pkgs. yeast
1 c. warm water

Sift flour in large bowl, add salt, sugar and shortening. Mix well. Add well beaten eggs and milk, then water in which 1 tablespoons and yeast have been dissolved. Knead and let rise until doubled, make into loaves and let rise until doubled. Beat 1 egg whites stiff, brush over loaves. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Let cool.
