2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sweet milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. hot water

Mix cocoa and hot water in a dish. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs; beat well. Add cocoa and water mixture, then add milk and flour with soda alternately. Then add vanilla. Makes 2 layers or 9 x 13 inch pan or cupcakes. Bake in moderate over (350 degrees) for 30 to 35 minutes.
