BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Spoon into greased tube pan and bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
