2/3 c. white sugar 1 sm. tbsp. butter 1 egg 1/4 tsp. salt 1 sm. c. milk 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ginger Few drops lemon flavoring About 3 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder Mix sugar, softened butter, spices; add milk, flour, baking powder, salt and flavoring. It should mix up stiff. Flour board or counter so dough won't stick. Dip out large lump of dough on the board. Pat the dough with flour and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness with rolling pin. Flour doughnut cutter and cut out. In the meantime, heat oil in 10 inch frying pan 2/3 full. When a doughnut hole dropped in browns, oil is ready. Turn burner down to medium. Flip doughnuts with a fork. Brown on both sides. Stand doughnuts on end in paper towel lined pan after shaking off excess oil on fork. Double recipe makes 3 dozen. |
