MOM'S CHERRY UPSIDE DOWN CAKE 
1 can pitted sour cherries
Yellow cake batter
Milk, approximately 2 tablespoons
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 stick butter

Drain cherries, press into bottom of oblong cake pan. Pour on cake batter, bake as directed. Cool. Cut into squares, invert and top each piece with a hard sauce made by beating together powdered sugar, butter and just enough milk to make it hold shape like whipped cream.
