BUTTERMILK CORN BREAD 
1 c. corn meal
4 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. melted shortening or oil
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk

Mix together and pour in greased baking dish. Bake at 475 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until brown.

....This recipe was taught to me by my deceased Mother who would be in her 80s. She did this in a cast iron skillet cured with bacon grease and a table spoon added each time used. The skillet was heated at 350°F while the mixture was prepared...use bacon drippings instead of the tbsp of oil...and a tbsp of baking powder with two eggs. A pinch of sugar if the bacon drippings were not sugar cured. Watch close after 30 minutes and brush the top with butter or more bacon grease. You can turn the oven up to broil and lightly brown the top to look like Chefs do who use a torch.
