CHERRY BARS 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can cherry pie filling (other variations may be used)

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and mix. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt; add vanilla. Spread 2/3 of this mixture into greased jelly roll pan. Spread cherries over batter, drop rest of batter over cherries with a teaspoon. Bake in moderate 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes.

While warm, drizzle icing over bars.

ICING:

1 c. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
