SALT WATER TAFFY | |
1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. cornstarch 3/4 c. light corn syrup 1/2 c. water 2 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. flavoring (mint, orange, strawberry, etc.) Mix sugar and cornstarch in a 1 1/2 quart saucepan. Stir in next 4 ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved, and until mixture boils. Continue cooking without stirring until temperature reaches 260 degrees or until a hard, but plastic ball forms in cold water. After boiling stops, stir in flavoring, and coloring, if desired. Pour onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Cool until it can be handled. Grease hands and pull until it has a satin-like finish and a light color. Cut into 1-inch pieces and wrap in wax paper. |
