SUGARED WALNUTS 
1 1/2 c. walnut meats
1 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. oil

Boil water and pour over walnuts. Let stand 2 minutes, then drain well. Toss walnuts with the sugar to coat evenly. Let dry overnight. Heat oil over medium heat; fry walnuts until golden, then drain over paper toweling. Serve hot or cold.

VARIATION: Use pecans or macadamia nuts instead of walnuts. Can be deep-fried in a wire basket in greater quantities.
