MRS. EVAN'S SUGAR COOKIES | |
2 c. white sugar 1 c. shortening or butter 3 eggs 1 c. sour cream 1 heaping tsp. baking soda 4 c. flour for a stiff dough (sift) 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. mace (or peel from 1 lemon) Cream sugar and shortening; beat in eggs one at a time. Stir soda into sour cream and beat into sugar mixture. Add vanilla and spice. Stir in 3 cups flour then add 1/4 cup at a time until dough is "right" (3 1/2 cups for drop cookies, 4 cups for roll cookies). Shortening and butter seem to take different amounts of flour. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees. For drop cookies we usually sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on the top just before baking. (Omit mace or lemon) Mrs. Evan's was my 2nd grade teacher. |
