SWISS STEAK 
3-5 lb. roast steak

Lay on well-floured board. Sprinkle more flour on the steak. Season with salt and pepper. Then chop steak well on both sides. Cut in serving-size pieces; brown in vegetables shortening on both sides. Add 1/2 cup chopped onions, 1 quart can tomatoes, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon sweet basil.

Pour all into roaster or Dutch oven. Bring just to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook until done or tender, about 1 hour. Or bake in 350 degree oven until tender.
