An apple dessert that is easy to make, inexpensive and delicious. Serves 9.

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
3 c. diced apples
1/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. flour

1. Pare apples and cut into half inch cubes.

2. Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg.

3. Add apples, nuts, vanilla and sifted dry ingredients.

4. Bake in greased 8 inch square pan, in 350 degree oven, 45 minutes. Serve hot or cold, with or without whipped cream or ice cream. (Good dessert for freezer, also.)
