AUNT LYDIA'S SOFT SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture. Chill dough overnight. Roll out on floured surface about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees until done (about 5 to 8 minutes).

FROSTING:

1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. milk
1 or 2 drops food coloring

Mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add food coloring. If too thick, add more milk. If too thin, add more sugar.
