BASIC OAT BRAN PIE CRUST | |
3/4 c. all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt (optional) 1/3 c. butter cold 1/2 c. oat bran 1 tbsp. brown sugar 3 tbsp. very cold water Lightly oil 9 inch pie pan (I use Pam). Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine flour, oat bran, salt (if desired) and brown sugar. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture is of coarse crumbs. Add water and stir until the dough takes on the shape of a ball. Turn out on floured surface. Knead a few times. Roll with a rolling pin. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 425 degrees. If you omit the sugar, you will have a crust that is idea for quiches and savory entrees. The dough is easy to roll out. Yields: 1 - 9 inch pie crust. |
