1 c. walnuts (pounded or ground to paste) - (use blender)
2 sticks butter, softened
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. granulated sugar
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
Melted chocolate (optional) - (milk or bittersweet)

Mix walnuts, butter, vanilla, granulated sugar and flour together in a large bowl. Shape dough into small crescents. Place on a ungreased sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 minutes. Dip cookies in sifted confectioners' sugar after cooling for 2 minutes, or dribble melted chocolate over them when remove from the oven. Do not dip cookies in sugar if you are dribbling melted chocolate over them. Makes approximately 4 dozen.
