MILK CARTON CANDLES | |
Milk carton (any size) Twine or cotton wick Paraffin or wax Scissors Pencil Liquid food coloring Double boiler Cooking oil Wash and dry the milk carton and cut off the angled top. Lightly coat the inside with cooking oil. Make a small hole in the bottom of the carton with the point of the scissors. Push one end of the twine through the hole and tie in a knot to secure. Extend the twine through the milk carton above the top. Place pencil across the top of the carton and tie the twine to it so the twine is taut and perpendicular to the bottom of the carton (this will be the wick). Put water in bottom half of the double boiler. Put paraffin or candle wax in the top half. Heat the water to boiling and melt the wax, watching it carefully. Food coloring can be added to the melted wax for coloring. (The color will lighten when the candle hardens.) Carefully pour the melted wax into the milk carton, almost up to the top. When the wax has hardened, remove the milk carton by gently tearing off the sides. You can add decorations to your candle by inserting straight pin through sequins and sticking them into the candle. NOTE: If you have leftover crayons or colored candles, add them to the paraffin for color when you are melting it. As the candles melt, carefully remove the old wicks from the melted wax with a fork. |
