SNICKER DOODLES 
1 c. shortening, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

I use Crisco and a little real butter.

Cream together shortening, eggs, and sugar; set aside. Sift together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Stir flour mixture into creamed mixture; mix well. Add vanilla; mix well. Chill dough in refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough into walnut-size balls and roll balls in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned but still soft. These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out with crinkled tops.
