BROWN SUGAR CAKE 
2 c. sifted flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. milk
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together first 4 ingredients. Add next 3 ingredients. Then add next 3 ingredients. Beat for 2 minutes. Pour into 2 greased and floured pans or 13 x 9 pan. Frost with Speedy Caramel Frosting. Melt 1/2 cup butter; blend in 1 cup brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook over low heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add 1/4 cup milk, stir until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Blend in 2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar gradually. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and mix well. Thin with small amount of cream if needed. Spread on cake while frosting is still hot.
