DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. Crisco
1 egg, unbeaten
1/4 c. milk
2 1/2 c. pared, cored, thin apples slice
3/4 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar into mixing bowl. Drop in Crisco. Add egg and milk and beat 150 strokes. Spread batter in 8 x 8 x 2 inch Crisco coated pan. Arrange apples in loosely, overlapping rows on top of dough with pointed edges down.

Sprinkle apples with mixture of brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake in hot oven (400 degrees) for 40-45 minutes. Serve warm with spiced cream made by combining 1 cup light cream with 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon; stir until sugar is dissolved. Makes 9 servings.
