DOUGHNUTS (AUNT SADIE'S RECIPE)
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. rich sour cream (I use whipping cream)
3/4 to 1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 to 1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
Flour, enough to be able to roll dough and cut doughnuts, approximately 5-6 c.

Beat sugar and eggs together. Add cream, milk, and vanilla. Stir well. To one cup of the flour, add soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Blend into sugar and egg mixture. Add flour 1 cup at a time, until dough can be handled, keeping it as soft as possible.

On floured surface, roll dough to approximately 1/3 inch thick and cut doughnuts. Fry in oil 375-400 degrees. Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar.

NOTE: Can "sour" cream or milk by adding 1 teaspoon vinegar per cup.
