CHOP SUEY | |
8 c. bite size meat (roast) 1 can beat sprouts 4 c. chopped onion soy sauce 2/3 tbsp. crisco 6 c. chopped celery 3 c. water 8 tbsp. cornstarch 1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar 1 lg. can chopped mushrooms Cook meat with crisco until brown on all sides. Add water, onion, celery, brown sugar. Cook until tender, add mushrooms, and bean sprouts. Take cornstarch, add soy sauce until thick mixture. Take 1 cup of hot meat broth and add to cornstarch. Slowly add cornstarch mixture to pan with meat and vegetables. Stirring constantly. (Meat mixture must be hot and bubbling before cornstarch can be added.) This will become thick and make a nice gravy over the meat and vegetables. Serve over hot mashed potatoes or white rice. Chow mein noodles on top before eating is good. Can be frozen. |
