ANISE CANDY 
2 c. sugar
1 c. white syrup
1/2 c. water
3 tsp. anise oil
Red food coloring

Mix sugar, syrup and water together;. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Boil mixture until candy thermometer reaches 300 degrees (hard crack) stage. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Then add anise oil and food coloring. Add food coloring a drop at a time until desired color is reached. Spread in a greased pan and allow to set. Sam made this every Christmas.
