ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. vegetable shortening (Crisco)
2 c. sugar
5 eggs
2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can coconut
1 c. chopped nuts

Beat egg whites stiff. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar, beat until smooth. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat well after each one. Add flour and soda to mixture. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Beat well. Add coconut and nuts. Fold in egg white. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until well done. This makes 3 layers or can be baked in 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.

FROSTING:

1 (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
Nuts, chopped
1/2 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar

Cream cheese and butter. Add sugar, beat until smooth (at room temperature). Add vanilla and mix well. Spread on cake and sprinkle nuts on top of each player.
