CINCINNATI SKYLINE CHILI
Basic Ingredients:

1 qt. water
2 lb. ground beef
2 onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
5 whole allspice
3 tbsp. (or more) chili powder
16 oz. tomato sauce
1/2 oz. baking chocolate

Optional:

finely grated cheddar cheese
chopped onions
hot dogs
spaghetti
oyster crackers

Boil water and raw ground beef slowly for 30 minutes (don’t brown ground beef ahead of time - Crumble it into small bits and boil it). Add other ingredients and cook over low heat for at least 1 hour. (I think the chocolate is the secret to the special flavor!) Stir often. Refrigerate overnight and then skim off fat.

Can be served in a variety of ways. Add kidney beans, top with finely grated cheddar cheese and/or chopped onions. Serve over hot dogs or cocktail franks in pastry, or over cooked spaghetti. Oyster crackers on the side.

Enjoy!

Serves 8.

YEAH !!! Nice recipe. A bit different than the conventional ...but the chocolate/cinnamon/all-spice add a nice twist. I sweetened it up a bit with some triple sec orange liquor and it gave it a tad of a citrus taste ...really nice !!!

YEAH !!! We will make this one again.

Looks good... I finally found a recipe that calls for boiling the chicken. Those other network chefs don't know how to make it Cincinnati style!

Excellent! Whole family loved it. I let it simmer for quite some time to thicken and served it with cheese, chopped onions, and spaghetti. Definite keeper!

I've had a lot of lame homemade Cincinnati chili, but this one was darn good! To make it more like Skyline, I chopped up the beef after I boiled it (just fished it out w a slotted spoon, chopped, then put it back in the broth). And I added A LOT more water -- like maybe 2 cups. Cincinnati chili is kind of brothy, not thick and gloppy and the extra water mellows the spice. The family loved it, even the one from Cincinnati!

I tried this sorta kinda chili-like stuff but am from South and just couldn't handle it. Also couldn't give it away. Friends are Southerners too. Make mine meat/spices... just not the ones here. Nothing else! Not wrong, just different tastes.... Interesting.

Fantastic ! Made this for church gathering and people were coming back for seconds and thirds!! The chocolate and cinnamon gave the recipe the excellent flavor.
