PEPPERMINT OR CHOCOLATE DESSERT 
1 1/2 c. finely crumbled vanilla wafers
4 tbsp. melted butter
1 qt. peppermint stick OR chocolate mint ice cream
1/2 c. butter
2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. nuts, finely chopped
1 tsp. vanilla

Top Layer:

3 egg whites
1/4 c. wafer mixture

Mix wafers and butter and press into 9 x 9 x 2 pan, RESERVING 1/4 cup mixture for topping.

Spread 1 quart softened peppermint stick or chocolate mint ice cream and freeze.

Heat 1/2 cup butter and 2 squares unsweetened chocolate. Stir chocolate mixture into 3 beaten egg yolks, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup nuts and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cool thoroughly.

Beat 3 egg whites until they form peaks. Fold egg whites into chocolate mixture.

Spread over frozen ice cream and top with reserved 1/4 cup wafer mixture. Keep in freezer.
