1 c. butter
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg (beaten)
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla. Add egg and beat well. Add the dry ingredients. Mix well and form into balls. Flatten with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
