APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2/3 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 1/2 c. plain flour
2 heaping tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. sweet milk
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. applesauce unsweetened
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 c. raisins
1 can black walnuts or more

Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs one at a time; mix well. Measure dry ingredients; sift. Alternate milk and flour beginning and ending with flour. Mix applesauce and vanilla in next on slow or by hand. Lightly flour nuts and raisins, stir in last. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

FILLING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. sweet milk
1 tbsp. (dab) butter
Add pinch of soda will not crystalize

Bring to boil and boil a little.

FROSTING:

1/2 box powdered sugar or more
1/4 c. butter or 4 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream well.
