GRANDMA'S OLD FASHIONED SUGAR COOKIES | |
1 c. butter, softened 1 c. confectioners sugar 1 c. granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 c. melted shortening 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. grated lemon peel 4 1/2 c. all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. salt (colored sugar decoration) Mix at medium speed butter and sugars. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until light and fluffy. Add shortening, vanilla, and lemon peel. Mix well. In large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Beat until well blended. Wrap and chill for several hours. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease two large cookie sheets. Form large teaspoon of dough on cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in granulated sugar. Sprinkle with colored sugars. Bake 8-10 minutes. Let stand 2-3 minutes. Makes about 7 dozen cookies. |
