GRANOLA | |
There are many forms of granola. There is no one "correct" recipe. The basic ingredients which are always included are oatmeal, oil, and honey. These, added to combination of any amount of dried fruits, nuts, and grains, make granola. People mix and match the extra and optional ingredients according to their own tastes. 4 c. uncooked oatmeal 1/3 c. vegetable oil (increase or decrease depending on how many "extras" and "optionals" you add) 1/3 to 1/2 c. honey (depending on how many "extras" and "optionals" you add) 1 tbsp. vanilla STANDARD EXTRAS: You should add at least 2. Use in any combination and remember that you may use any amount desired. 1 c. grated coconut 1/2 c. raisins (or any dried fruit) do not bake 1/2 c. sesame seeds 1/2 c. chopped nuts (any nuts, preferably RAW nuts, usually walnuts, pecans, or almonds) OPTIONAL: One of these are necessary.: 1 tbsp. brown sugar 1/4 c. powdered sugar 1 1/2 c. wheat germ (raw or toasted) In a large bowl mix all of the dry ingredients. In a saucepan combine oil, honey, and vanilla, and warm. Add the honey mixture to the dry ingredients and hand mix until all of the particles are coated. Spread this mixture out on a greased long, low pan (a cookie sheet with sides is good). Bake at either (turn from time to time) : 250 degrees for 1 hour OR 300 degrees for 1/2 hour. When finished toasting, add the dried fruits (such as raisins). When cool, store in airtight container. |
