GRANDMA HAGGARD'S GREEN GRAPE

1 qt. green grapes
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3 c. water
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. sugar

PICK GRAPES ABOUT THE SIZE OF ENGLISH PEAS before the seeds form. Cook them with the sugar, water and butter. Make crust. Mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening, add water. Mix with fork until it makes a ball. Roll to 1/8" thickness. Cut in strips 1" wide. Alternate crust with fruit-saving enough for top crust. Sprinkle a little sugar on top and dot with butter. Pierce top a few times with a fork. Bake in 325 degree oven until top is brown.
