APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. mace
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts, cut fine
1 c. applesauce

Place flour, soda, salt, and allspice together and sift 3 times. Cream shortening or butter thoroughly. Add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg, raisins, and nuts to creamed mixture. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Bake in greased tube or loaf pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour. May be served unfrosted or frost with Butter Cream Frosting.
