FILLING: 3 c. cut up dates 1/4 c. sugar Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cool and make crust. CRUST: 3/4 c. soft shortening 1 c. brown sugar Mix. Sift and stir in: 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt Stir in 1 1/2 cups rolled oats. Mix thoroughly. Press 1/2 of this mixture in greased and floured pan. Spread with cooled filling. Cover with remaining crumb mixture. Bake in 400 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cut and remove from pan while warm. |
