2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. cocoa
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 c. flour
1 c. boiling water

Put all ingredients in mixing bowl in order in which they are listed, and do not stir before pouring in boiling water. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 9 inch pans. Bake about 35 minutes at 325 degrees. Cool at least 1 hour before frosting.
