POWDERED SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 unbeaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. sifted flour

Cream sugar, butter and shortening until smooth. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Sift together the dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Chill until stiff enough to handle.

Make into small balls and dip in sugar. Put on greased cookie sheet; flatten balls with fork. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen. Freezes well.
