CARAMEL LAYER SQUARES 
1 (14 oz.) pkg. light caramels
2/3 c. evaporated milk
1 (18 1/2 oz.) box German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 305 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.

In the top of double boiler, melt caramels and 1/3 milk.

In a large bowl place dry cake mix, melted butter and 1/3 milk. Mix by hand to form stiff dough, stir in nuts. Press 3/4 of dough into prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on baked crust. Spread melted caramel mixture over the chocolate chips using a knife. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 of the cake mixture over the top. (It will not spread or cover the top.) Bake for 20 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
