CARAMEL LAYER SQUARES 
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1/3 c. cream or evaporated milk
1/2 c. butter, melted
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. chocolate chips
Caramel

In large bowl combine butter, nuts, cream and cake mix. Stir mixture by hand until it becomes a sticky dough. Press 1/2 of it into 9 x 13 inch greased and floured pan. Bake 6 minutes in 350 degree oven. Sprinkle chips over baked crust, then drizzle caramel over top. Crumble remaining dough over cake. Bake for 20 minutes. Cool completely before slicing.

CARAMEL:

1/3 c. white corn syrup
1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
Pinch salt

Boil until soft ball stage by candy thermometer. Cool and add 1/3 cup of cream.
