1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. applesauce
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts & raisins (opt.)

Cream together shortening, sugar and well beaten eggs. Add remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees.
