NO EGGS SPICE CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. Crisco
2 c. water
2 c. sultana raisins, optional
2 c. seeded raisins
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. warm water
4 c. flour
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. powdered mace
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts, if desired

Put Crisco in saucepan with sugar, water, raisins, salt and spices and boil for 3 minutes. When cool, add flour, baking powder, baking soda dissolved in warm water and nuts.

Put in a greased and floured cake pan. Bake in moderate oven for 1 1/2 hours.
