DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
3 tsp. baking powder
6 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 eggs
4 apples, sliced

TOPPING:

1/2 - 3/4 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
6 tbsp. butter, melted

Into a bowl sift flour, baking powder, salt and 6 tablespoons of sugar. With a pastry blender cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal.

Beat eggs into milk. Stir into shortening mixture. Spread batter into a greased 13"x9"x2" pan.

Top with sliced apples in parallel rows with pointed edges down in dough.

Mix cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar together. Sprinkle over dough/apple combination. Melt butter and pour over cake.

Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender. This recipe may also be made with Italian plums instead of apples.
