1 c. butter, softened
3 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. baking cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. warm water

Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy at medium speed of electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Beat in vanilla and water. Pour batter into greased and floured 9x13x2 pan or 2 (9 inch) round pans.

Bake at 350 degrees about 35 minutes to about 45 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. Frost with Caramel Frosting.
